Loipers plans for next winter

Several of us have been talking already about what we might be doing next winter (assuming that travel restrictions have eased sufficiently to go skiing in Scandinavia and the Alps). We are keen to hear what you would like to be going, so do get in touch if you have any ideas. The following plan is still under discussion and subject to change.

Club trip to Norway in Mid/late February 2022. This is a little earlier than usual. We are looking to have one week at the Venabu Fjellhotel which is in central Norway just north of Lillehammer on the edge of the Rondane National Park. Venabu offers good skiing, on- and off-track, and the hotel has a reputation for top quality food. There is a good-value all-inclusive package booking with Headwater or Exodus (includes full board, ski hire, tuition and guided ski touring, flights and transfers). Details on www.headwater.com/holidays/winter/norway/K07NV.htm

For anyone keen interested in DNT hut touring, there is an option for a week of touring in the South Rondane immediately following the week at Venabu. Peter Aldred is currently looking into this.

The Alps in mid/late March – Telemark coaching and a week of ski touring in the Vanoise. A few of us are keen to do a Telemark coaching week with Telemark Tracks based in Val d’Isere. They offer outstanding teaching of Telemark ski technique (probably the best there is). See www.telemarktracks.com One week’s coaching costs £310 and one week’s accommodation (self-catering) is from about £325.

Tim Owen is looking into a week of guided ski touring (telemark or alpine) with Pyrenean Odyssey. The Vanoise has a good system of catered mountain huts and offers excellent ski touring with lots of high cols and peaks which are accessible for competent skiers. Those of us doing the Telemark coaching the previous week will be hoping for lots of dream powder! More about Pyrenean Odyssey on www.pyrenees-mountains.com
