Loiper News – 2021, a great summer!

Seven Loipers cycled the 26 mile circuit of Kielder Water on 24th April with fabulous weather and great views across the lake. And finishing with waffles at Tower Knowe. Perfect!

On 22 May we did an excellent 10 mile walk in the Cheviots. Another sunny day!

Then on 4th June, John and Sue Dark hosted a BBQ in their garden at Oakwood. It was a lovely warm sunny evening attended by 28 Loipers and spouses. Thanks both for a super evening and thanks to everyone for bringing some great food and drink.

On another summer evening, 21 June, John led a Midsummer walk on the Simonside Hills. We planned to watch the sunset at the Thompson Stone (when the setting sun is aligned with the hole in the rock) but we dallied too long at the Simonside summit and instead watched a beautiful sunset part way along the ridge.

Then on another perfect summer evening, 21st July, Neil led twelve Loipers on a lovely walk – the Wannie Line Trail in beautiful Northumberland. Finishing with a stunning sunset and a visit to The Ox Inn in Middleton.

Finally in September, on a hot windless day, five Loipers had a great mountain-bike ride starting and finishing in Alston. We did about three and a half hours of riding on mixed terrain (some of it on quite challenging) and enjoyed a stop for coffee and scones at The Hive in Nenthead – then lunch and ice creams on the village Green at Garrigill.
